The Safe Formula

    Jekyll-Hyde

Definition: One with a dual personality that is alternately good & evil.

Sexually addicted people experience what is called an “addictive personality shift” when
they go into their trance ( illness ) & it seems like there are two different people inside of them.

Their real self who tries to live up to values & cares about other people & another person ( sex addict )
whose values & relationships are sacrificed to the addiction.

This Jekyll & Hyde experience is very common in sexual addiction.

A recovering sex addict must be able to recognize this personality shift when they start to go into their trance
    & become the other person.

This will help them detach from their addicts power.

The Safe Formula

On page 158 in a book called Out Of The Shadows by Dr. Patrick Carnes which is generally regarded as the
bible on sexual addiction & the kind of dysfunctional relationships sexually addicted people experience.

This book is an absolute must read for people in recovery for sexual addiction or co-sexual addiction.

The Safe Formula is a tool that sexually addicted people can use to determine whether or not a specific sexual
or relationship behavior is compulsive or addictive:

    1. ( S) It is a Secret. Anything that cannot pass public scrutiny will create the shame of a double life.

    2. ( A) It is Abusive to self or others.

Anything that is exploitive or harmful to others or degrades oneself will activate the addictive system.

    3. ( F) It is used to avoid or is a source of painful Feelings.

If sexuality is used to alter moods or results in painful mood shifts, it is clearly part of the addictive process.

    4. ( E) It is Empty of a caring, committed relationship.

Fundamental to the whole concept of addiction and recovery is the healthy dimension of human relationships.

Sexually addicted & co-sexually addicted people are taking great risk by being sexual
outside of a loving & caring committed monogamous relationship.

Some of the consequences of such an action ( promiscuity ) could include:
Chlamydia, Genital Herpes, Genital Warts, HPV, Gonorrhea,
Hepatitis B, Syphilis, Trichomoniasis, HIV or Full Blown Aids,
Divorce, Get fired & lose income, get arrested & labeled a sex offender or loss of life.
